one of Britain’s national ↑daily newspapers, started in 1896 by Alfred ↑Harmsworth, who later became Lord Northcliffe. It presents political views that are generally ↑right-wing. It has a ↑tabloidformat (= size of page) and is considered to be part of the ‘popular press’, not one of the ‘quality papers’
